The Legend of Tapputi

Before kingdoms fell… before perfumes were bottled… there was a scent the gods forbade mankind to possess.

In the sacred city of Babylon lived Tapputi, alchemist of kings, keeper of oils, whisperer to flame and flower.

But while she made fragrances for emperors and temples… her infant son burned with an unending fever.

For years she mixed herbs, smoke, minerals and moonwater. Nothing saved him.

Then one night, a wandering noble warrior spoke of a forbidden mountain — Bradost. Where, hidden in a black cave beyond storms, grew The Breath of Heaven — a cursed plant whose silver leaves carried healing and a fragrance so divine it could bend memory itself.

Guarded by immortal spirits. Protected by a blood-cursed family turned monstrous. No mortal returned from Bradost.

Tapputi left before sunrise. Alone.

The Mountain of Shadows

Act I
The Mountain of Shadows

She crossed burning deserts. Fought wolves under red moons. Survived sandstorms that whispered her child's name.

At the mountain's base, the noble warrior returned — not mortal at all, but an ancient guardian. Seeing a mother's desperation, he gifted Tapputi three powers:

  • Smoke that blinds evil
  • Fire drawn from copper
  • A vial of enchanted solvent able to reveal hidden paths

"The mountain tests greed," he warned. "But a mother's love terrifies even gods."

She climbed. And Bradost awakened. Stone giants moved. Winged demons hunted. The cursed family emerged — half human, half rooted beasts wrapped in vines.

Tapputi fought not with swords — but with chemistry. She turned oils into flame. Minerals into explosions. Perfume smoke into illusions.

Alchemy as warfare.

Act II
The Cave of the Cursed Bloom

Deep inside the mountain she reached the living cave. There stood the sacred plant.

Silver leaves. Black roots. Golden mist rising from its petals. Its fragrance made time stop.

But the plant possessed a spirit — an ancient queen of scent — who offered Tapputi a bargain:

Take the leaves. Save your son. But the scent will bind itself to your bloodline forever.

Tapputi accepted. Battle erupted. The cursed guardians attacked. She burned through shadows, shattered spells, and with the enchanted solvent revealed the plant's true weakness.

Moonlight.

She split the cave roof with fire. Light poured in. The curse broke. The guardians turned to dust.

Tapputi took the sacred leaves — and escaped as Bradost collapsed behind her.

The First Perfume

Act III
The First Perfume

Back in Babylon — she crushed the leaves. Distilled them with rose water and sacred oils. Created the first fragrance ever born of magic and science.

She raised a vessel of the sacred perfume and cast its mist over her son's body. The fragrant water shimmered upon his skin. His fever vanished as though stolen by the wind.

For the first time since birth — he smiled.

But kings heard rumors. Priests demanded the plant. Armies came to seize its power.

So Tapputi fled again — across deserts into Arabia — carrying the living plant hidden beneath black cloth. In the dunes she built a secret sanctuary. There she perfected the fragrance.

A scent not made — but survived.

NAQAFFE

She named it:
